Mesa Verde National ParkInvoking the spirit of the Ancestral Pueblo people who made it their home for over 700 years, Mesa Verde National Park worked with Southern Colorado Clean Cities to cut harmful emissions. In 2012, the park eliminated inefficient vehicles that traveled nearly 400,000 miles and added four new propane pickup trucks and a propane lawn mower. A propane fueling station was also installed for park use. Project partners executed a comprehensive idle-reduction outreach campaign for staff, concessioners, and the park's 500,000 annual visitors. Michigan Green FleetsThe Green Fleets program brought advanced transportation technologies and alternative fuel solutions to fleets throughout Michigan. The project brought together a diverse cross-section of Michigan fleets, which adopted electric, hybrid, propane, and compressed natural gas vehicles. Green Fleets partners put more than 500 cleaner vehicles on the road and built more than 50 alternative fueling stations. In addition to improved air quality and reduced dependency on imported petroleum, Green Fleets commercialized cutting-edge technology and manufacturing capability, all while creating jobs in Michigan. Michigan's Vehicle Technology Transition Impact Project (MiVTTP)The objective of the project is to conduct community-driven strategic planning through detailed listening and strategic planning sessions in underserved communities as identified throughout Michigan. Insights gathered through listening sessions will be used to inform strategic plans to assist communities in developing new opportunities for growth and development to offset losses and prepare for the transportation decarbonization transition - that is a more just transition - through access to technical assistance and workforce training initiatives. This planning will ease or overcome negative impacts on underserved communities, contribute to higher than projected quality jobs, and acceptance of decarbonized transportation options, as well as manufacturing related industry wage growth and stability. The project approach is innovative and first-of-its-kind forward-thinking, using a proven, equity-centered engagement process developed to overcome the impact of bias in planning activities. Microgrid Opportunities: Vehicles Enhancing Resiliency (MOVER)The objective of the project is to demonstrate, refine, and disseminate a nationally replicable model for implementation of vehicle to grid optimization coupled with resilience and grid services for a community center and school. MOVER will complete an emerging technology analysis and field validation that combines zero emission electric school buses with solar photovoltaics (PV), energy storage, and microgrid technology to create a resilient, low-carbon energy system able to continually deliver grid services and trim emissions while providing backup energy during significant grid, weather, fire, or seismic events. Mid-Atlantic Electric School Bus Experience ProjectThe Mid-Atlantic Electric School Bus Experience Project (MEEP) provides electric school buses for short-term demonstrations at no charge for selected school fleets in Virginia, Maryland, Washington, D.C., Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. Electric school buses are an exciting tool for school districts as they can reduce operating costs, improve local air quality, achieve sustainability goals, and protect the health of children. The objective of the project is to provide local school districts (school administrators, mechanics, drivers, faculty, and students) with experience operating electric school buses in their fleets and to generate detailed, in-use data and information to allow other school districts to make future procurement decisions. Mid-Atlantic Electrification PartnershipThe objective of the Mid-Atlantic Electrification Partnership is to enable a regional ecosystem in Virginia (VA), District of Columbia (DC), Maryland (MD), and West Virginia (WV) allowing all sizes of electric vehicle (EV) use for fleets, Transportation Network Companies, and consumers. This ecosystem project connects the Capital Region's cities, employs multiple EV and infrastructure sub-projects, and includes multimodal hubs such as airports, seaports, mass transit hubs, and logistics centers while addressing equity issues of populations near these hubs and within cities and towns. Midwest EVOLVE (Midwest Electric Vehicle Opportunities: Learning, Events, ExperienceThe Midwest Electric Vehicle Opportunities: Learning, Events, Experience (Midwest EVOLVE) project is an effort to promote plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) in a seven-state area including Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, Ohio, and Wisconsin. This effort educated the general public, workplaces, corporate fleets, and auto dealer staff about the benefits and advantages of PEVs in a variety of settings such as auto shows, ride and drive showcases, dealership trainings, and workplace charging challenges. The seven Clean Cities coalitions partnering to host these events across the Midwest also distributed and analyzed pre-, post-, and follow-up surveys of attendees to determine the outcomes of these outreach efforts. As of 2018, Midwest EVOLVE has executed a total of 78 ride and drive showcase events, 12 PEV dealership training events, 29 workplace charging challenge showcases, 10 extended test drive programs, 27 PEV forum events, and over 90 educational outreach events. In total, over 90,000 attendees have participated in these events. Notably, the project had displays and ride and drives at the Chicago Auto Show, the Milwaukee Auto Show, the Twin Cities Auto Show, and the Ohio Auto Show in 2018. From the analysis of pre- and post- surveys, the project partners determined that over 21% of those surveyed have purchased a PEV since attending an event. As part of the project, Argonne National Laboratory launched the Evolution Consumer Choice Tool which helps consumers understand the different powertrain technologies and connects them to PEV information on the DOE-supported Alternative Fuels Data Center and FuelEconomy.gov. Midwest Region Alternative Fuels ProjectMetropolitan Energy Center, along with19 sub-recipients, received funding support for projects to build alternative fuel stations, purchase alternative fuel vehicles, and convert conventionally-fueled vehicles to an alternative fuel. The project area included metropolitan areas in three states: Missouri, Kansas, and Nebraska. The project deployed 376 alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles and included 29 fueling station installations. The stations will encourage fleets in the area to further invest in alternative fuel vehicles and will create workable compressed natural gas travel corridors between and within the target metros. Another objective of the project was to use success stories to educate the public about, and increase acceptance of, alternative fuels.
