New York State Alternative Fuel Vehicle and Infrastructure Deployment ProgramThe primary goal of New York State Energy Research and Development Authority's (NYSERDA) Alternative Fuel Vehicle and Infrastructure Deployment Project was to expand the use of many different alternative fuels to a wide variety of fleets across New York state. NYSERDA worked with sub-recipients in the public and private sector that used vehicles ranging from small neighborhood electric vehicles (NEVs) to Class 8 compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks that operated everywhere in the state, from New York City to small towns like Minoa and Malone. In total, 395 alternative fuel vehicles were purchased. Among the light-duty vehicles, the large majority were CNG-fueled, thanks in large part to a major initiative by Verizon to convert a large part of its New York fleet to natural gas. Heavy-duty vehicles were split between CNG, propane, hybrid electric, and hydraulic hybrid. There were also 100 new fueling locations installed as part of this project, which consisted primarily of electric vehicle charging stations, but also included four large CNG fueling stations and three propane fueling stations. The Ohio Advanced Transportation PartnershipThe Ohio Advanced Transportation Partnership (OATP) involved diverse partners from across Ohio, including city and county government, private and non-profit fleets, and other industry partners in a broad-based project to help transform Ohio's transportation sector. Funds for this project were used for the purchase or conversion of 313 alternative fuel vehicles including compressed natural gas vehicles, propane vehicles, hybrid electric vehicles, and dedicated electric vehicles. In addition, 77 unique refueling stations were built. These included electric vehicle recharging locations, compressed natural gas stations, and propane stations. Wisconsin Clean Transportation ProgramThe Wisconsin Clean Transportation Program (WCTP) was a four-year initiative aimed to significantly reduce petroleum consumption and emissions in Wisconsin by increasing the use of alternative fuel or advanced technology vehicles and the installation of supporting infrastructure. The WCTP also aimed to maximize the preservation and creation of jobs by investing in the technology and training necessary to continue to develop a strong alternative fuels industry. The project deployed 177 light-duty vehicles, 200 medium- and heavy-duty vehicles, and installed 3 publicly accessible and 19 private alternative fuel stations. Denali National Park and PreserveThe most visited park in Alaska, Denali National Park and Preserve covers 6 million acres, located 300 miles south of the Arctic Circle. In 2013, the iconic park acquired one plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) and one photovoltaic-powered charging station to help reduce emissions in Denali’s "Front Country," home to several campgrounds, visitor centers, and administration facilities. The PEV replaced a gasoline-powered vehicle typically driven short distances. The charging station, constructed by local students, paves the way for expanded use of PEVs in the area and helps educate park visitors on the importance of shifting to domestic energy sources and advanced vehicle technologies and reducing emissions. Petroglyph National MonumentWorking with the Land of Enchantment Clean Cities coalition in 2014, Petroglyph National Monument replaced three gasoline vehicles with all-electric, plug-in hybrid electric, and hybrid electric vehicles. Shenandoah National ParkTo help keep views along scenic Skyline Drive clear, in 2012 Shenandoah National Park acquired a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, an all-electric vehicle, and three electric vehicle chargers. Working in conjunction with Virginia Clean Cities on ways to reduce emissions, Shenandoah added 12 propane lawn mowers to replace existing gas models. Christiansted National Historic SiteChristiansted National Historic Site, located in the U.S. Virgin Islands, commemorates urban colonial development and offers visitors a chance to experience the history and lifestyle of that time. In 2015, the park added two electric vehicles to its fleet and installed two electric vehicle charging stations within the historic site. The project serves multiple functions: to reduce emissions, to promote sustainable transportation, and to diversify the park's fleet to include alternative fuel vehicles. The new vehicles are also used to educate island residents about electric vehicle charging stations and clean energy technology in transportation through the park's interpretive program on climate change and sustainability.
